I feel a sense of loss when it comes to my Asian American identity, along with the tension of feeling both "too Asian" and "not Asian enough." For my senior thesis, I wanted to capture this feeling of watching anime in the mornings before the school bus arrived. The piece took the form of a living room, a focal point where Vietnamese, Japanese, and American influences come together. These influences are reflected in the decor and the videos playing on CRT TVs. Ultimately, the living room serves as a memory bubble—a place to revisit the past and also a space for healing. It's where I can just be myself, watching lighthearted cartoons without the constant pressure of questioning my identity.
